And Israel said to Joseph, “I never expected to see you again, and here God has let me see your children as well.”
By saying this, Yaakov wanted to see if Yosef had sinned.
This is because it is taught that one can tell if someone sinned if their face turns a yellowish tinge like beeswax. Only a drug called ikkarin would cure the person from this tinge but it also made the person sterile.
When Yaakov saw the Yosef’s face had no color change, he thought that Yosef may have taken the ikkarin drug to make the color go away.
However, the fact that he had children was proof that he had not sinned and not taken the drug.
