When did the Sotah procedure cease?
Speak to the Israelite people and say to them: If any man’s wife has gone astray and broken faith with him
In the days of Rabbi Yochanan Ben Zakai, shortly before the destruction of the Second Temple, they ceased administering the Sotah-drinking procedure.
This is because as a prerequisite for it to work, it required that the husband had also been faithful to his wife, and unfortunately, so many husbands were not.
