For I was in dread of the LORD’s fierce anger against you, which moved Him to wipe you out. And that time, too, the LORD gave heed to me.
God sent five angels to destroy the Bnei Yisrael.
They were the angels of “Wrath,” “Burning,” “Relentlessness,” “Destruction,” and “Indignation.”
Moshe then summoned the patriarchs Avraham, Yitzchak, and Yaakov, who rose from their graves and prayed that God annul His decree. They were successful in having three of the angels withdrawn, but two remained.
Moshe then prayed and had the other two angels withdrawn, as well. He buried the angels in a grave in Moav.
