Who did the Amalekite succeed in killing, and how?
How, undeterred by fear of God, he surprised you on the march, when you were famished and weary, and cut down all the stragglers in your rear.
The Amalekites overtook the Jewish people and were able to kill all those who had considered not observing the Torah.
This was especially true regarding the Tribe of Dan, whose members were expelled from the Clouds of Glory because they had many idols in their possessions.
