Make a Dedication

Rabbi Eytan Yehudah Dzikowski
Why did Avraham build an altar now and what do we learn from it?
The LORD appeared to Avram and said, “I will assign this land to your offspring.” And he built an altar there to the LORD who had appeared to him.
Avraham built an altar in the city of Ai and prayed there.
He did so because he had foreseen that his descendants, in the days of Yehoshua, would suffer due to the sin of Achan. They were indeed saved in Avraham’s merit.
We learn from here that a person should always offer a prayer before trouble actually arrives, just as Avraham did.
Had Avraham not done so, the Jews would have been decimated in Ai. Instead, “only” thirty six people were killed.
Some say that it was actually just one person who was killed, one equal to thirty six people..
