What is the 400 numerical value alluding to?
“My lord, do hear me! A piece of land worth four hundred shekels of silver, what is that between you and me? Go and bury your dead.”
Ephron knew that Avraham was very wealthy, and therefore he gave the property the “evil eye.” This is alluded to in his name. The numerical value of Ephron is 400, the same as “ayin rah/the evil eye.”
Also, the 400 shekels that Avraham paid for the cave corresponded to the 400 different types of idolatry that he tried, and abandoned, while seeking the Truth.
This is also why he inherited the Land of Israel which is 400 by 400 parsot.
