He who fatally strikes a man shall be put to death.
There was an officer appointed by the court whose job was to quickly bring a condemned man back to the court by horseback for a re-trial, should anyone come forward in his defense before he was actually executed, even the condemned man in his own defense.
In fact, he would be brought back to the court for a re-trial, as many times as necessary. He would only be brought back twice however, if the judges felt that his arguments were weak.
For this reason, two scholars would accompany the condemned man to the place of execution in order to evaluate the credibility of his defense arguments, should he have any.
