How heavy was the Aron?
The poles shall remain in the rings of the ark: they shall not be removed from it.
Although it appeared that the bearers of the Aron were carrying it by means of its staves, in reality, it was the Aron that was carrying its bearers.
Additionally, When they travelled in the desert, sparks of fire would come from between the poles, killing all the snakes and scorpions in their way.
(Sotah 35a, Devarim Rabbah 7:9; Sifri Beha’alotecha)
