What was the anointing process?
He poured some of the anointing oil upon Aharon’s head and anointed him, to consecrate him.
When Moshe anointed Aharon, he first poured oil onto his head and then dabbed it onto his eyelids.
He then spread the oil from one eye to the other with his finger.
There were two people who were anointed: the king, in order to confirm his authority, and the Kohen Gadol, in order to elevate him spiritually.
(Rashi, Haamek Davar)
